The Artist’s Way
A 6-week series with Janna Benge (part 2)

Time to jump start your creativity. Get out of your rut and find your inner voice or passion. Turn your life around with methodologies based on Julia Cameron’s international best-selling book, The Artist’s Way. This is a supportive group-based approach to completing a comprehensive set of weekly activities that involve writing, reflecting, sharing and going on artist’s dates. Janna Benge is a local writer and experienced facilitator whose own life has been transformed by The Artist’s Way.
This 6-week session will cover the second half of The Artist’s Way. The first half of the book was covered in a 6-week series that took place Oct-Nov. 2011. Newcomers, however, are still welcome to attend as the materials are divided into unique weekly topics that can be covered in a non-sequential manner.

Mindful Living Workshop

In this immersive 5hr workshop, we will explore several mindfulness practices and their value to our daily living. Individually and together, we will learn and practice exercises in sitting, breathing, walking, moving, eating, and reflecting, to be more fully present in body, heart and mind to our lives as they are. Each segment will offer a practice that can plants seeds of mindfulness and, if used consistently, become a gateway to deeper wholeness. Participants will return to their daily lives refreshed and with tools to make space for themselves within their daily activities.

Bird Watching at Merritt Island
Driving tour with David Slongwhite

Take a driving tour of Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with a seasoned bird watcher and learn how to identify the many birds that frequent the refuge. Bird watchers of all levels are invited to spend an inspiring morning out in nature with David Slongwhite. Newcomers are welcome!

- First Stop: Parrish Park Titusville @ 10:00 am (bathroom facilities)
- Second Stop: Black Point Wildlife Drive (10:20 am to 3:00 pm)
- Black Point Wildlife Drive is a 6-mile one-way drive through salt and freshwater marshes and it is a great place for viewing wildlife.
- Return by 3:00 pm
What to Bring (optional): Binoculars, Bird Books, Sun Protection, Bug Spray, Bottle Water, Bag Lunch and Camera
David grew up in rural central Massachusetts and spent a lot of time in the woods. He began bird watching as a hobby in 1972, when his wife gave him a pair of binoculars and a bird book for their first Christmas together. David loves to share the experience with others and is still getting to know Florida. He also incorporates nature photography as part of the excursion.

Attend a transformative lecture and 1-day retreat in Holotropic Breathwork led by Dr. Karen Castle, a licensed Acupuncturist who has an MA in Oriental Medicine and Transpersonal Psychology . Karen is certified in Stan Grof’s Transpersonal Training in Holotropic Breathwork and is the author of Unveiling the Modern Goddess thru Symbolism, Chakras and Myth. She is an author, a health and wellness expert and a transformational coach.
This experience is designed to support any one who is willing to travel into the inner realms of the psyche. Holotropic Breathwork™ is a powerful approach to self-exploration and healing that integrates insights from modern consciousness research, anthropology, various depth psychologies, transpersonal psychology, Eastern spiritual practices, and mystical traditions of the world. The name Holotropic means literally “moving toward wholeness.”
The process combines accelerated breathing with evocative music in a safe setting. Holotropic Breathwork™ is done in groups with the guidance of a trained facilitator. Additional elements of the process include focused energy release work and mandala drawing.

Healthy Living Workshop

Nature Adventure with Linda Taylor
Participate in a nature adventure that will inspire and inform of you about Florida’s history of healing. In her book, Great Women in Nature, Linda Taylor combines history, travel ideas, nature awareness and art. She discusses how a thread of Florida’s wild nature wove itself into the lives of ten women. This connection is examined in the stories of Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mina Miller Edison, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Zora Neale Hurston, Myrtle Scharrer Betz, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Jackie Cochran, Rachel Carson and Marjorie Harris Carr. Linda Taylor developed the idea for this book from her experience of guiding women on nature adventures in Florida through her company It’s Our Nature®.

Compassionate Communication Workshop
Creating intimate, honest and healthy relationships in life require great compassion and communication. This workshop will provide hands-on training in developing the skills necessary to enhance our friendships and interactions with family. It will be lead by a local psychiatrist who specializes in non-violence, conflict resolution and deep healing.

Yoga of Writing
Sit. Write. Stretch. with Chintana Ahlund
Experience meditation in the simple acts of sitting, writing and stretching. Create and maintain a personal practice of peace with writing prompts and meditation guidelines. Writing meditation is different from journaling in that it focuses on getting you out of your head and into the moment. Methods based on teachings of Natalie Goldberg, author of Writing Down the Bones.
